She mostly practises and teaches Vipassana meditation in the Mahasi style, and continues to spend 3-4 months a year on intensive meditation retreat with her teachers in Nepal and the UK. She teaches Hatha Yoga as meditative movement which can be a vehicle for insight. Emphasises is given to a reflective process that encourages deeper connection with ourselves and the world. Having studied Ecology and Advanced Environmental Studies at Aberdeen University and UEL, he began researching heritage cereals (those that pre-date the agricultural revolution and are more adapted to growing in low inout farming methods). Through e5 bakehouse, the adoption of using these types of grain in breads has become standard practice. Baskets to transport agricultural produce have always been a fascination for Femke, who completed a Masters degree in Product design. She observed the use of a type of very large conical back carrying basket for traditional grape harvesting at her first workplace in Valtellina, Italy. Now woven backpacks and smaller picking baskets to carry across the body, often using hand made fabric for the straps, have become her main focus. The home farm, a 13 acre site in the village of Gosbeck, is where most of the action happens. It’s home to our market garden, micro bakery, vineyard, weaving studio, campsite and flock of sheep. It’s where we (Ben, Femke, Rory & Aran) live; where we host volunteers, team members and visitors; and where our workshops and events take place. The whole site is off-grid, generating all its own energy and water. The other part of the farm is 55 acres of arable fields in the village of Monewden, where we grow heritage varieties of cereal and have started an agroforestry system. The whole farm is certified organic by the Soil Association, and we are part of an active community, sharing information through our network. Over the next few years, various people came to nurture, experiment and grow Fellows Farm into what it is today. We dug five new ponds to create hubs for wildlife, planted hundreds of trees along with 15 acres of permanent wildflower meadow and other areas in environmental stewardship. We are increasingly supplying shops and restaurants across Suffolk, as well as serving it up as toppings on sourdough pizzas, which we serve at Grange Farm in Hasketon most Friday evenings.
